The above large painting (36" x 54"), 'Red, White, and Black', was sold at auction online from my facebook page; $400 was split across two funds: Black Languages Arts & Culture as well as the Legacy of Hope Foundation. It was painted in tribute to #BLM, and it represents freedom from violence and injustice, as expressed and rallied for in the United States during the Covid19 summer of 2020.

I am most interested in the possibilities that stem from exploring the unending variations that can describe a simple motif - a canoe, kitchen chair, a knife. Couple a simple motifs with another, then multiply those infinite variations by how a work can be viewed under different light conditions...from the left or right...from near or far...and the simple has become infinitely complex.

Fall 2016
Recent interests have bricolage, assemblages made of different materials and found objects. I've also  returned to using divisions to anchor my designs.
Each summer, I continue to create a public art piece as part of orilliastreetsalive.ca/ a festival of artists' creativity as revealed on the streets of Orillia.
Colour continues, but in a more restricted palette, while in my acrylic paintings, both text and texture have been added in places, using mixed media techniques of collage, sand mixed in with paint, and both letters and shards of wood glued to the surface.

The Grid - Larger Works (up to 48" x 72")

My larger works on canvas have allowed me to explore  abstraction that gravitates to a purity of form. The use of the grid allows for works to be viewed as a gestalt - as if smaller, square works have been fused together to form a greater whole.

The Wooden Works
The dividing line between my more recent work, on this page, and
what I classify as "previous, older work", lies on the surface on which I paint . . . wood.
Wooden panels are attractive in themselves, and offer possibilities for leaving the wood
grain bare or stained. Wooden panels combine what is best about working on Masonite
or canvas, but with a more precise surface for applying colour, line, and mixed media.

My work tends to be square. The square has become most recently a motif in itself, alongside canoes, waves, and leaves.
The square is a departure from my designs that employ flowing, curvilinear forms. Integrating  both the
straight and a more organic edge is one of my current explorations.

Colour remains important to me. It is vivid, and exudes positive energy without being
kitschy or gauche. My
distinctive use of colour, crisp edges and arcuated edges all
combine to create abstractions of what it means to be uplifted. Conquering fear and
anxiety through the application of paint is one of my great accomplishments.
